You would need to:
- Be over 18 years old
- Have 5 years of permanent residency in the United States of America or have 3 years of permanent residency if married with an American citizen
- Have basic knowledge of the English language (speaking, reading & writing)
- Have a basic knowledge of the history and government of the United States of America
- Have proof of good conduct (no criminal records)
Exception: You may take the citizen exam in your mother language when you are:
- Over 50 years old and have been a legal resident for 20 years
- Over 55 years and have been a legal resident for 15 years
- Over 65 years and have been a legal resident for 20 years
